In English this half term, we will be writing narratives using descriptive techniques and dialogue based around the text Leon and the place between. We will also be writing an information text inspired by The fantastically great women who changed the world. At the end of the term we will be exploring poetry in the style of Kenning poems.

In Maths, we will be continuing to follow our Maths - No Problem! scheme. We will be learning about place value, addition and subtraction. We will be continuing to consolidate our knowledge of renaming and we will continue practising using these in different mathematical contexts.

In Science, we will be finding out about the digestive system. We will identify the different parts of the digestive system and their uses. We will be conducting many experiments to deepen our understanding of where our food goes.

In Topic, we will be learning about North America. We will explore the similarities and differences comparing North America to the UK and consider the push and pull factors that contribute to the farming around the continent. We will discuss what Native American life is like and identify different tribes.

In Art, we will be starting our year with colour theory work investigating colours and how they work together in a variety of different ways.  We will also be creating our own grey scale.

In Computing, our main focus will be Repetition in games. We will be exploring the concept of repetition in programming using the Scratch environment. We will look at the difference between count-controlled and infinite loops, and use our knowledge to modify existing animations and games using repetition. Our final project is to design and create a game which uses repetition, applying stages of programming design throughout.

Homework

Children are expected to learn weekly spellings and will be set English and maths homework on our new online system. Spellings will be tested on a Friday. Children should also continue to practise their times tables.

In addition, children are expected to read a minimum of three times a week and record this in their reading records. We ask that children have their reading records in school daily so we can record when we have heard them read and add any comments.

PE

Class PE Day
Aspen Tuesday and Friday
Hazel Monday and Wednesday
Sycamore Monday and Friday

Every child needs to bring their full PE kit including a top in their house team’s colour and suitable trainers.  In colder weather, children may need a tracksuit.

Water Bottles

Please ensure your child has a named water bottle in school. These must be taken home at the end of each day and returned the following day.

Snack

We recommend that children bring some fruit for breaktime, as the morning can be long without a snack.

Communications between home and school

Please don’t hesitate to contact us on your class email address if you have any concerns or questions.  If you need to speak to us directly about anything, then after school when you pick up your child is the best time.

Thank you for your support.
