Welcome to Reception! Our classes are Beech and Palm.

In this first term, we are going to be learning all about ourselves in our topic ‘My World’.

We will be discussing the similarities and differences between each other, what makes us special and unique, and sharing our interests.

In English, we will be sharing lots of stories and beginning to think about the different features of books. Some of our keys texts are ‘Owl Babies’, ‘Something Else’, ‘The Big Book of Families’ and ‘All are Welcome’. We will begin to teach phonics in the week commencing the 18th September.

In Maths, we will be exploring different numbers, shapes and patterns.

Homework

In this first term, we like to focus on developing your child’s confidence and giving them opportunities to talk about themselves within a group setting.

We will be sending home reading records and reading books for you to start home reading with your child.

The books will only be changed once a week providing you have acknowledged in the reading record that your child has read with you that week.

PE 

The children do not need a PE kit until after half term. Their kits can be stored in school on their pegs and will be sent home at the end of each term to be washed.

Forest School

All children are required to come into school wearing their own clothes for Forest School. They will need to bring in their school uniform in a bag so they can change back into this after their lesson and will bring the Forest School clothes back home with them. Wellies can stay at school.

As the weather gets wetter you will also need to provide waterproof clothing for you child. Please ensure all items of clothing are named.

Water Bottles

Please ensure your child has a named water bottle in school. These must be taken home at the end of each day and returned the following day.
