Welcome to Sycamore class.
Your teachers are Miss Luker, Mrs Chagtai and Ms McAndrew.
We are learning
This term in maths we will be learning about bar charts and line graphs. We will be exploring how graphs and charts can be used to represent data and how they can be used to identify trends or patterns over time. We will be using graphs to make comparisons between data and we will have a go at drawing and interpreting our own graphs.
Towards the end of term, we will be exploring time. We will be learning to tell the time using the 24 hour clock before moving on to changing times from hours to minutes and seconds and changing years to weeks, months and days. We will also be looking to solve time related problems.
In English, we are reading ‘Varjak Paw’ by SF Said. Through our work on ‘Writing to Entertain’, we will be exploring narratives with a focus on developing structure and plot. We will be making links to our grammar lessons by developing our use of paragraphs around a theme, using subordinating and coordinating conjunctions to link clauses in a sentence and working further on using fronted adverbials to add extra detail to our writing.
In Science, we are learning about States of Matter. We will be grouping materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases. We will be developing our scientific investigation skills by observing that some materials change state when they are heated Observe that some materials change state when they are heated or cooled, and measure or research the temperature at which this happens in degrees Celsius (°C). We will also be making links to our topic work through identifying the part played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle.
Topic – Rivers and Mountains
We will be using maps and atlases to locate the world’s countries with a focus on Europe. We will be learning to understand geographical similarities and differences between a region of the UK and a European country and a region within North or South America. We will also be measuring and observing human and physical features during geographical fieldwork.
Homework is given out at the start of each half term. Homework should be handed back in on Wednesday along with your child’s reading challenge book. Homework and reading challenge books will be returned on Friday.
If your child would like to create PowerPoint presentations for their homework, or show us photographs, please do email them to email@example.com.
PE will take place on Tuesday and Thursday.
The children will be expected to take part unless we have received a note from parents/carers.
All children are expected to have correct PE kit, including a tracksuit and t-shirt in their house colours.
If you need to speak to us directly about anything, then after school when you pick your child up is the best time.
Thank you for your continued support.
