Welcome to Rowan class. Your teachers are Mr Brindley and Mrs Fullick.
We are learning
In English we are going to be learning how to write clauses using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. This will help us to write short narratives. The book that will support our learning will be ‘Traction Man’. We will read, re-tell through drama, sequence and recount the story.
In Maths, we are going to be exploring shapes and patterns. This will include 2D and 3D shapes and the properties that they have. We will also look at repeating patterns and what we notice, as well as making a few ourselves. We will begin to work on asking mathematical questions and explaining our methods.
Weather and the seasons will be the topic for this half term in Science. We will look at each of the seasons and observe what weather we experience in each season.
In Topic, we will be looking at the lives and work of Mary Seacole and Tim Peake as important people in history, both past and present.
Homework is handed out on a half termly basis. There will be a selection of activities for your child to complete at home. (It is not compulsory for all pieces to be completed). Certificates will be awarded for:
2 pieces of homework completed - Bronze certificate
3 pieces of homework completed – Silver certificate
4 Pieces of homework completed – Gold certificate
5 pieces or more – Platinum certificate
Homework can be brought in and will be checked on Thursdays. The deadline for all homework to be completed is Friday 29th March 2019
PE is on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure that your child has a fully labelled kit inside a named PE bag.
Forest School is on Wednesdays. Please ensure that your child has a fully labelled kit inside a named Forest School bag.
Reading books are changed every Monday. Please ensure you have read with your child and recorded it inside your child’s Reading Record.
Spelling lists are given out on Friday for the following week. Spelling tests are also on Fridays. Please ensure that you practise the spellings in your child’s list with them throughout the week.
It is essential for children to familiar with the correct letter and number formations as early as possible. Practise these regularly with your child as well as reading with them for a short period each day.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us on our class email addresses if you have any concerns or questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you need to speak to us directly about anything, then after school when you pick your child up is the best time.
Thank you for your support.
