Welcome to Palm Class.
Your teacher is Miss Saunders and your teaching assistant is Miss Gillette.
We are going to have a brilliant year in Reception.
We are learning
In this first term we are going to be learning all about ‘Ourselves’. We will be discussing the similarities and differences between each other, what makes us special and unique, and sharing our interests.
We will be sharing lots of stories and beginning to think about the different features of books. Our focus text will be ‘Something Else’, where we will learn how to retell and act out the story.
We will begin to teach phonics in the week commencing the 20th September.
In maths we will be exploring numbers to 10, identifying and creating patterns, recognising shapes and learning their properties. We will be learning about estimation and developing different counting strategies. We will also be learning about different measures, including; length, weight, capacity and time.
We are very excited to be joining the rest of the school in using the Maths No Problem program. We believe the children in Reception will really enjoy our exciting new lessons!
In this first term we like to focus on developing your child’s confidence and giving them opportunities to talk about themselves within a group setting.
We will be sending home reading records and reading books, for you to start home reading with your child. The books will only be changed once a week if you have acknowledged in the reading record that your child has read with you.
All children are required to come into school wearing their own clothes for Forest School. They will need to bring in their school uniform in a bag so they can change back into this after their lesson and will bring the Forest School clothes back home with them. Wellies can stay at school. As the weather gets wetter you will also need to provide waterproof clothing for you child.
Please ensure all items of clothing are named
Palm Forest school will be on Tuesday morning.
Palm PE is on a Monday, they do not need a PE kit until after the half term. Their kits can be stored in school on their pegs and will be sent home at the end of each term to be washed.
There will be a Phonics Evening held via Zoom for parents on the Thursday 7th October at 6:00pm where we will share our teaching strategies and provide advice for you at home.
Please do not hesitate to contact us on our class email address if you have any concerns or questions at firstname.lastname@example.org
However, if you need to speak to us directly about anything, then after school when you pick up your child is the best time.
Thank you for your support.
