Welcome to Magnolia Class.
Mrs Schneider is the class teacher this year with Mrs Golding, Teaching Assistant.
We are learning
In English this term we are reading ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ and writing a letter retelling the adventures of Max. We will be practising correct sentence structure and the use of adjectives to add detail to our writing. We will also learn about acrostic poems through ‘The Lost Words’ before writing our own poems based on natural objects.
In Maths we are continuing to follow our ‘Maths No Problem’ scheme. We begin the term by revising our knowledge of length and height, numbers to 40 and fractions. We will then move onto counting, ordering and comparing numbers to 100. Later in the term we will be learning about time and money. Throughout these units of work, the children will be developing their knowledge and understanding of numbers and mathematical vocabulary.
In Science we are learning about animals. We will learn to identify features of and classify a variety of animals sorting them into fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We will also learn what pets we could have, how to look after them and what they eat. We will be practising using the scientific skills of identifying, grouping, classifying and analysing.
In Topic we are learning about how countries are different. We will begin by learning what a country is before moving on to identifying geographical features of Kenya, Japan and countries within the UK. We will use aerial photographs to recognise landmarks and basic human and physical features
Spellings are given out on Friday to be learned for a test the following Friday. The children are also given weekly spellings to learn. In addition to these, children are expected to read daily and for this to be recorded in their Reading Record books. We ask that children have their reading records in school daily so we can record when we have heard them read and any comments.
PE lessons are on Wednesdays and Thursdays. During the current COVID 19 pandemic, children should come to school in their PE kits and can wear them for the whole day.
Forest School will be on Wednesdays this term and children can bring their Forest School kit to put on or wear it to school over their PE kit. Please ensure children have a change of clothes in case they get too wet or dirty.
Water Bottles: Please ensure your child has a named water bottle in school. These must be taken home at the end of each day and returned the following day
