Welcome to Elm Class.
Mr Matthews will be taking you through Year 6 with the help of Mrs Mustafa and Mrs Pinniger.
We are very much looking forward to the year ahead.
We are learning
In English this term, we are beginning with reading Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Margorian which links to our World War Two topic. We will be covering a range of writing styles, including fiction, non-fiction, formal and informal writing. During this term, we will also be practising regularly for the grammar and spelling tests.
In Maths we will be following our 'Maths No Problem' curriculum. Particular focus will be on measure, geometry and algebra. We will also introduce ratio and proportion. Children will be starting to regularly practise for the arithmetic and reasoning papers, completing regular homework to support with this.
In Topic this term, our work will revolve around the Second World War. We will explore how the war began, how people’s lives were affected during the time and important dates and events. This will link into our work in English. We will be going on a school trip to Chislehurst Caves - further information will follow.
Our school journey this year is from Monday 30th September to Friday 4th October. If you have any questions, please speak to us.
Homework is given out on Fridays and is collected the following Wednesday.
Each half term we will send home a week by week planner for the spellings (tested on Fridays) and for the Topic or English work. The Maths will be sent home each week to match up with our learning.
This year Elm Class have PE on a Tuesday and a Thursday. Every child needs to bring in a full PE kit including a top of their house team's colour, clean socks and suitable trainers.
Please do not hesitate to contact us on our class email address if you have any concerns or questions at email@example.com.
