Churchfields Primary School

Welcome to Beech Tree Class!

Your teachers are Mrs Jefferies, Mrs Abedin and Miss Jackson.

We are learning

In Spring term,  we are going to become Explorers and learn all about Space and Dinosaurs. We will then begin to learn about Traditional Tales after the half term.

We will be researching lots of different facts and learning how to use non-fiction books. We will also be sharing lots of stories, as well as having our focus books ‘Here come the Aliens’ by Colin McNaughton, ‘Harry and a Bucketful of Dinosaurs’ by Ian Whybrow and Adrian Reynolds and many traditional tales. We will be beginning to develop our writing skills by writing for different purposes, for example, writing facts, character descriptions and then moving onto writing narratives using lots of story language.

Our phonics lessons have been going brilliantly; the children are now confidently applying the sounds they have learnt and are becoming more confident in their reading in writing. Phonics will continue in Spring term, we will be revisiting Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds and moving onto Phase 4 where the children learn how to blend and segment longer words.

In maths we will be exploring numbers to 20, we will be beginning to learn how to solve number problems and developing our skills in addition and subtractions. We will also be exploring different measures, including; height, length, weight, capacity and time.

Learning at home

The children bring home their reading books. They have all now moved up a colour band so they continue to be challenged at home as well as at school.

The children have also been given homework books which we started to send home in the Autumn term. This will continue in Spring term so please keep an eye out on Friday afternoons when the new homework is set.

We aim to make the homework enjoyable and achievable for the children, however, it is not compulsory that the homework is completed. We want children to have a positive attitude to their learning, therefore their homework is something they should want to do and not something they feel they have to do.

Forest School and PE will continue in the Spring term.

As the weather is due to be getting colder over the coming months please ensure your child has appropriate clothing, lots of layers, thick socks, gloves and hat etc.

PE is on Mondays and Fridays
