Welcome to Rowan class. Your teachers are Mr Brindley and Mrs Fullick. We are looking forward to having a great year together!
We are learning
In English we are going to be learning how to write clauses using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. This will help us to write short narratives. The book that will support our learning will be ‘Bears don’t read’ By Emma Chichester Clark. We will read, re-tell through drama, sequence and recount the story.
In Maths we are going to be exploring number to 10. This involves using different resources and numbers to add, subtract and make different number bonds. We will begin to work on asking mathematical questions and explaining our methods.
Senses will be the topic for this half term in Science. Each of our 5 senses will be tested in a variety of experiments that we will conduct over the coming weeks. It will be so much fun!
In Art the pupils will be exploring colour by recapping on primary and secondary colours and will be creating their own collaged flower colour wheel.
Homework is handed out on a half termly basis. There will be a selection of activities for your child to complete at home. (It is not compulsory for all pieces to be completed). Certificates will be awarded for:
2 pieces of homework completed - Bronze certificate
3 pieces of homework completed – Silver certificate
4 Pieces of homework completed – Gold certificate
5 pieces or more – Platinum certificate
Homework can be brought in and will be checked on Thursdays. The deadline for all homework to be completed is Friday 14th December 2018
· PE is on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure that your child has a fully labelled kit inside a named PE bag.
· Forest School is on Wednesdays. Please ensure that your child has a fully labelled kit inside a named Forest School bag.
· Reading books are changed every Monday. Please ensure you have read with your child and recorded it inside your child’s Reading Record.
· Spelling lists will be given out on Friday for the following week. Spelling tests will be on Friday. Please ensure that you practise the spellings in your child’s list with them throughout the week.
It is essential for children to familiar with the correct letter and number formations as early as possible. Practise these regularly with your child as well as reading with them for a short period each day.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us on our class email addresses if you have any concerns or questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you need to speak to us directly about anything, then after school when you pick your child up is the best time.
Thank you for your support.
