Welcome to Oak class.
Mrs Hicks will be taking you through Year 6 with the help of Mrs Pinniger and Mrs Mustafa
We are very much looking forward to the year ahead!
We are learning
In English we will begin by reading Street Child by Berlie Doherty which links to our Victorians theme. We will be covering a range of writing styles, including fiction and non-fiction and formal and informal writing. In the second half-term we will be studying Twelfth Night in preparation for a Shakespearean theatre group visiting the school.
In Maths we will be following our Maths No Problem curriculum. Particular focus will continue to be on developing and securing mental and written calculation strategies for all four operations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Year 6 will also be expected to develop their reasoning skills
In Topic this term, our work will include exploring the different areas of the Victorian Era (with a focus on children) and comparing them to modern life to analyse the differences in such things as food, education, housing and families.
Our school journey this year is from Monday 15th to Friday 19th October. More information will follow nearer the time. If you have any questions, please speak to us.
Homework is given out on Fridays and is collected the following Thursday.
Each half term we will send home a week by week planner for the spellings (tested on Fridays) and for the Topic or English work. The maths will be sent home each week to match up with our learning.
Spelling Tests are on a Wednesday
Children are expected to read regularly and record this in their reading records. These will be checked on a Wednesday.
