Cherry Class

Welcome to Cherry Class, your teachers this year are Miss Killian, Mrs Pinniger and Mrs Foulsham.

We are learning

This term in English our class text will be There’s A Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom by Louis Sachar. We will be exploring narrative and playscripts to fit in with our focus on Writing to Entertain. We will also be exploring more poetry: in particular, The Highwayman and the general art of performing poetry to others.

In Maths, we are looking at Position and Direction, Shape, Area / Perimeter and Measure.

In our Topic lessons we will be finding out about the Anglo Saxons. We will be exploring the importance of the Anglo-Saxon era, their traditions and why they settled in England.

In Science, we will be looking at Animal lifecyles, sexual and asexual reproduction and plant lifecyles. We will be growing our own plants and beans and observing the butterfly life-cycle by having our very own caterpillars to look after and observe!

We are visiting the Science Museum early in the term to support our Science work.

Homework

Spelling Test every Monday morning (all spellings are stuck in the homework diary and book).

Daily Reading is to be recorded in home work diaries.

The homework menu is on the inside cover of the children’s homework books. Books should be handed in on a Wednesday for marking.

Maths homework will be issued by Friday and should be returned by Wednesday.

Learning times tables is still an essential focus for this year and the children should practise these at home and at school. Hit the Button is an excellent app/website for this.

Reminders

P.E is every Monday and Wednesday.

Swimming for Y5 will start in the Summer Term on Monday afternoons.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us on our class email addresses if you have any concerns or questions at cherry@churchfields.bromley.sch.uk.

If you need to speak to us directly about anything, then after school when you pick your child up is the best time.

Thank you for your continued support.

Miss Kilian, Ms Golding and Mrs Foulsham
