Welcome to Y3 Baobab Class! Miss Burnett teaches Monday – Wednesday and Mrs Widgery teaches Wednesday – Friday. Mrs Mustafa is our Teaching Assistant and Miss Mitchell also works with us.
In Maths, we have been using the column method to solve addition and subtraction problems and we are now moving on to multiplication and division. We will be solving problems using our 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
In English, we are exploring different non-fiction texts, and we will be using our knowledge to write instructions, letters, newspaper articles and non-chronological reports. We will be reading Gregory Cool by Caroline Birch as well as using film and non-fiction texts as a stimulus for our writing.
In Science, we are studying Animals including Humans, and are completing an investigation about whether people with the longest legs can jump the furthest.
In Topic we have been studying the Romans, and this half term we are exploring the impact of the Roman invasion of Britain.
Each half term, children are given a sheet of homework tasks covering a range of subjects. There is one task for each week and homework should be completed and handed in each Wednesday (the dates for each task are on the sheet).
Children have weekly spellings which are stuck into their homework book. These are also tested on a Wednesday.
We encourage children to read regularly and keep a note of any reading (accompanied by an adult or independent) in their reading diary. Children must change their reading books each Wednesday, although they are free to bring them in at other times to be changed.
We are also practising our times tables and have an informal test each Friday morning. In Y3, children should already know their 2x, 5x, and 10x tables and should be learning their 4x and 8x tables.
PE is on a Monday and Thursday morning. Children must have their PE kit in school on these days.
We have recorder lessons on a Tuesday.
We will be having Forest School on Friday afternoons 12 January 2018 – 9 February 2018.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us on our class email addresses if you have any concerns or questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
