Welcome to Y3 Baobab Class! Miss Burnett teaches Monday – Wednesday and Mrs Widgery teaches Wednesday – Friday.
In English we will read a range of fiction and non-fiction texts as well as poetry and short films/video clips. This term we will begin by reading ‘Angry Arthur’ by Hiawyn Oram and using this as a stimulus to develop our descriptive writing.
In Maths we will start by developing our understanding of place value and numbers to 1000. We will then work on securing mental and written calculation strategies for all four operations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
In Topic this term, we will be investigating the Aztecs.
In Science we will be studying Animals including Humans, particularly nutrition and skeletons and muscles.
The following homework will be set each week:
Spellings: will be given out at the beginning of a half term. Children will learn one list each week and will be tested each week on a Wednesday.
Homework: will be given out at the beginning of the half term. Children will have one piece of homework to be given in each Wednesday. We will be awarding certificates for children who regularly complete their homework.
Reading: all children are expected to read regularly at home and record this in their reading records (even if they are a free reader). Reading records must be brought to school every day and should be kept in your child’s bag so that teachers can record additional reading at school.
Times tables: all children should be practising times tables at home. By the end of Year 3, children should at least have a secure knowledge of the 2x, 5x, 10x, 3x, 4x and 8x tables.
PE is on a Monday and Thursday each week. Please make sure your child always has their PE kit in school.
Homework and spelling tests are all due on a Wednesday.
Please ensure reading records are in school every day.
Recorders will be on a Tuesday each week. Please remind children to bring their recorder to school every week.
