Welcome to Y3 Baobab Class! Miss Burnett teaches Monday – Wednesday and Mrs Widgery teaches Wednesday – Friday. Mrs Mustafa is our Teaching Assistant and Miss Mitchell also works with us.
Welcome back! We hope you had a restful Easter break. We look forward to the summer term and some sunshine!
In Maths, we will continue to use our scheme, Maths No Problem. Particular focus this half term will be on continuing to develop skills in telling the time and calculating durations of time. We will then move on to develop children’s understanding of graphs and fractions.
In English, we will read a selection of Greek myths – starting with Theseus and the Minotaur - and will look in particular at the key features of myths. We will be inventing our own mythical creatures and build up to writing our own Greek myth. Grammar topics this term will include revising many of the key areas we have looked at over the year; present perfect form of verbs and progressive form of verbs.
In Science, this half term we will be studying plants. Hopefully, you all managed to successfully grow your cress seeds over the Easter holidays!
This term we will be studying the Ancient Greeks during our topic sessions. We will explore where Ancient Greece was located, who the Ancient Greek people were, when they lived and how they were able to establish their empire.
Each half term, children are given a sheet of homework tasks covering a range of subjects. There is one task for each week and homework should be completed and handed in each Wednesday (the dates for each task are on the sheet). We would really value your support in ensuring that homework is completed to a high standard using pencil or handwriting pen. We will give out Gold, Silver and Bronze awards depending on how many tasks you complete and return on time.
Children have weekly spellings which are stuck into their homework book. These are also tested on a Wednesday.
We encourage children to read regularly and keep a note of any reading (accompanied by an adult or independent) in their reading record. Children must change their reading books each Wednesday, although they are free to bring them in at other times to be changed. We also visit the library on a Tuesday. The reading of library books can also be recorded in the reading record.
We are practising our times tables and have an informal test each Friday morning. In year 3, children should already know their 2x, 5x, and 10x tables and should be learning their 3x, 4x and 8x tables.
PE is on a Monday and Thursday morning. Children must have their PE kit in school every day.
We have recorder lessons on a Tuesday.
Our class assembly during the summer term is on Wednesday 6th June.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us on our class email addresses if you have any concerns or questions at email@example.com.
